The UWH Portal is a tool designed to make the lives of Underwater Hockey organizers easier and give players/referees/spectators a smooth interface to participate in Underwater Hockey specific discussions, view event information, and follow a team's progress through an event.

The features include helping to make running tournaments easier for organizers by handling the team and player registration, sending automatic updates and deadline reminders to teams/players, and facilitating direct communication to all (or subsets of) participants by organizers.

Players, referees, and spectators can easily see updates to game information as the site tracks the results of Underwater Hockey tournaments, calculates standings in real time, and updates the schedule dynamically to fill seeds and winners/losers into the bracket so everyone will always know who is playing and when.

Visitors can navigate to see the schedules and information for different events; past, present, and future (as available).

For players, referees, and organizers to interact with the site they need to create a profile. Once a profile is created they can choose to register a team for an event, express interest as a player/referee to attend an event, or accept an invitation to join a team.

To simply view the schedule or results a user does not need to create a profile (or log in to an already created profile). However, when performing actions beyond just viewing the schedule and results, it needs to know who you are. As with many other web tools, the way that we chose to accomplish that is to have you create a profile. You only need to create a profile once and it can be used for all future events. To create a profile we collect as little personal data as possible and safeguard what we do collect to the best of our ability.

Part of our commitment to safeguard each user's personal information is to give them the power to choose what part(s) of the site they wish to be associated with; such as joining a team for an event and for what role on the team. Many events also need to gather information from each participant and/or have the participants sign waivers. Using the invite acceptance process is a convenient method to gather this information.

Until you accept an invite to an Event or a Program/Group none of your personal information is visible to the admins except your display name/username (which is how they find you in order to invite you). Even after accepting an invitation only some of your personal information is accessible by the admins; for example, instead of sharing your birthday, your calculated CMAS age is shown instead. Please see the UWH Portal privacy policy for more information.

The schedule can be filtered a number of different ways from the navigation at the top of the event page:

  • Division
  • Pod
  • Team

The schedule can also be filtered by day and to display in your own local timezone. Filtering the schedule can make it easier to focus on only the parts of the schedule that matter to you.

The standings update in real time as the games conclude and include automatic resolutions of any ties per the CMAS Tournament Regulations for Underwater Hockey Competitions V1.0.

The standings section helps players better understand where their team ranks in the overall competitive bracket. In addition to division, pod and team name, the fields on the standing are:

  • Rank - Where a team currently stands among the division or pod. Two or more teams may have the same rank if they are currently fully tied (see below for how ties are broken).
  • Points - The number of points the team has earned. Teams standings are ranked by points. For each game a team earns:
    ResultPoints
    Win+3 Points
    Tie+1 Point
    Loss0 Points
    Forfeit-3 Points
  • Record - Win-Loss-Tie record for only the games in the division/pod that the standings are calculated.
  • GA - Goals Allowed during the games for the division or pod played for points in the standing. Goals Allowed is used as a tie-breaker if necessary.
  • GP - Games Played. Number of games the team has played in this division/pod. This only counts the games that will go towards points in the standing.
  • Overall - Win-Loss-Tie record for the whole tournament, includes current set of games as well as any previous pods and bracket play.

Per the CMAS Tournament Regulations for Underwater Hockey Competitions V1.0, if a team forfeits a match then they will lose 3 points in the standings. The other team will receive credit for a win and earn three points.

Teams are ranked by the number of points they have earned. If two teams have the same number of points then the tie will be broken according to the CMAS Tournament Regulations for Underwater Hockey Competitions V1.0 Section 7.4:

7.4 If two teams are tied in ranking, the tie breaking procedure is as follows:

  • 7.4.1 Head-to-head competition
  • 7.4.2 Most number of wins in the intra-section matches. Team with the most wins is ranked higher.
  • 7.4.3 Least number of losses in the intra-section matches. Team with the least losses is ranked higher.
  • 7.4.4 Least sum of goals allowed in all matches in the intra-section matches. Team allowing the fewest number of goals is ranked higher.
  • 7.4.5 Highest sum of goals scored in all matches in the intra-section matches. Team scoring the highest number of goals is ranked higher.
  • 7.4.6 Coin toss

The displayed standings reflect the current status of all tie-breakers in real time (except coin-flips, which are performed by the Tournament Director or Tournament Referee before being entered into the scoring system manually). The standings are not final till all the games in a seeding section have been played.

In the event that three or more teams have the same number of points at the end of round-robin play for a division or pod the tie will again be broken according to the CMAS Tournament Regulations for Underwater Hockey Competitions V1.0 Section 7.5.

According to this rule, if three or more teams are tied and no clear winner from head-to-head matches can be determined (meaning each team has both won and lost against the other teams respectively), the two-way tie breakers will continue starting at 7.4.2 and proceed in order until one team is separated from the others as either the top or bottom team.

For example, if three teams were tied on points and had the same number of wins and losses then goals allowed would be used next. The team with the most goals allowed would become the lowest rank of the three. The remaining two teams would then be compared again starting at 7.4.1 with head-to-head competition for first and second rank.

If none of the above can break the tie, the tie will be broken by a coin flip or some other method as directed by the Tournament Director or Tournament Referee.

First, because those are the rules per CMAS Tournament Regulations for Underwater Hockey Competitions V1.0 Section 7.4, it is not a decision of this site. For more info on the tie breaker rules, see above.

The reasoning for this rule can be explained by this: if instead ties were broken using goal differential, or most goals, it would encourage a team to run up as many goals as possible against a weaker team to help them in the tie break later. That's no fun.

Hopefully yes. The pages are designed to be mobile friendly and use frameworks geared towards that. It should work on most modern smartphones and tablets. If you have any feedback please contact us. Alternatively, please consider using the UWHPortal mobile app for a smoother mobile experience, available in Google Play Store and Apple Store.

If you notice any discrepancies in the scores or schedule please notify the Tournament Director and/or Tournament Referee as soon as possible.

If you notice a bug/issue with the website or have any general feedback please contact us.

Creating events on your own is coming soon. In the meantime, if you would like to host an event to the site, please fill out the new event form.
